     Town of Steilacoom

     Steilacoom Garden Club members remind town residents and businesses that it's time to create

     these whimsical autumn characters in time for the 7th annual Scarecrows of Steilacoom event.

     Tacoma Fall RV Show

     Tacoma Dome, 2727 E "D" St, Tacoma

     Wed-Thurs 11am-8pm, Fri-Sat 11am-9pm, Sun 11am-5pm. The Tacoma Fall RV Show showcases

     over 500 RV's, 350 makes and models and 50 manufacturers in over 8 acres. Motor homes, fifth

     wheels, travel trailers, campers, tent trailers and vans are all here. It is the perfect time for making

     a deal on closeout models, taking advantage of onsite financing, talking to factory representatives

     or shopping the newest in parts, accessories or travel and resort destinations.  $9 adults, $7 seniors

     (62+ weekdays only), 12 and under free.

     Fort Nisqually’s Magical Candlelight Tour

     Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, Point Defiance Park, 5400 N Pearl St, Tacoma

     7-9:30pm. Eavesdrop on life in the 1859. On your tour, you will encounter re-enactors portraying

     the laborers, servants and gentlemen and ladies of the venerable Hudson's Bay Company with

     only the stars, campfires and candles to light the evening! Traveling through the fort, these people

     from the past won't be aware of their 21st century visitors. To them, tour groups are merely spirits

     oompah-pah bands and national German touring groups, the traditional "tapping of the keg,"

     7th Annual Autumn Leaf Health & Safety Festival

     11am-2pm.  Free health screenings and safety information for the entire family.  Don’t miss the 6th

     annual Autumn Leaf Health & Safety Festival, the largest free fair of its kind in the South Sound.

     Free health screenings for the whole family, continuous Bingo with fun prizes and more than 70

     Pierce County Hunger Walk

     Jefferson Park, N 9th St between Proctor & Stevens, Tacoma

     1pm - Registration, 2pm - walk.  Spend a Sunday afternoon walking (or running) a 5K or 10K route

     through the beautiful Proctor District in North Tacoma, then return to Jefferson Park for live music,

     free food and festivities - all to help raise money to help feed hungry children and families in Pierce

     County, and throughout the world.

     Pierce College International Programs "16th Annual Korean Alphabet Day Celebration"

     Cascase Building, 3rd & 4th Fl, 9401 Farwest Drive SW, Cascade Bldg, Lakewood

     9am-12pm.  Korean instructor Son Ok Kirst and her students organized the event which features

     a calligraphy and cultural display from 9 to 11:00 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Cascade Building

     followed by a reception and closing remarks beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the third floor Board Room.

     The Consul General of Korea, Chanho Kwon, the Education Consul of Korea, P.K. Youh, and Dr.

     Claudia Thomas, Mayor of Lakewood, will be in attendance for the celebration.  Free admission.

     Tacoma Fall Home & Garden Show

     Thur-Sat 10am- 8 pm, Sun 10am-5 pm.  The Tacoma Fall Home and Garden Show® is the

     foremost show of its kind in Washington state featuring exhibits for the do-it-yourselfer and

     the professional contractor alike. The show is a unique marketplace to shop, compare and save

     on a total selection of  home-related products and services for building, remodeling, gardening and

     decorating. All this plus accredited seminars and award winning display gardens await you all

     Empty Bowls

     South Park Community Center, 4851 South Tacoma Way, Tacoma

     Empty Bowls is a project that offers the arts and anti-hunger communities a rare and unique chance

     to unite their efforts. The MetroParks Foundation and Emergency Food Network have joined

     together  for the past eight years to host this event and help fill some of the empty bowls in Pierce

     County. Pacific Northwest Potters, volunteers throughout the arts community and emergency food

     system, the Tacoma Weavers’ Guild, local students, local restaurants and many more caring

     individuals work  together each year to make this event a success. Come and pick out one

     bowl - or ten - and matching placemats, and then join us for a bowl of soup  served by some of

     the best chefs in town. Bowls are $10 each, placemats prices vary, and soup is served (in a

     separate bowl) with each purchase.

     Lakewood Library semi-annual used book sale including hard back and paper back books, videos,      CDs, tapes, records and sheet music.  Members-only presale on Tues, Oct 15,  5:30-8pm.

     Bonfires, Beaver Pelts and Bogeymen

     Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, Point Defiance Park, 5400 N Pearl St, Tacoma

     7-9pm.  Celebrate Halloween in the style of past centuries with ghost stories told around a roaring

     bonfire. Follow a trail of glowing Jack-O’-Lanterns  to a blazing bonfire. The music of a fiddle will

     lull you  into a sense of peaceful years gone by. Storytellers from the past will send shivers down

     your spine as their words bring forth the spirits of the fur trade. The storytelling begins with "gentler"

     tales; and after a break for complimentary cider and cookies, the stories get increasingly scarier!

     Come and find out what scared people in 1855 as you listen to ghost stories the way they're

     supposed to be told - outside and in the dark. $4 adults, $2 children.

     Emergeny Food Networks "Abundance"

     Tacoma Sheraton Bicentennial Pavilion, 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma

     6-10pm.  Abundance is an annual dinner and auction to benefit the Emergency Food Network. 

     Guests will dine, bid, and buy to share abundance with those in need.  Proceeds from the event

     will go to feed those in need in Pierce County.

     Make a Difference Day

     Lakewood City Hall Council Chambers, 6000 Main St SW, Lakewood

     8am-12pm.  This national day of community service is organized locally by the Lakewood Youth

     Council. It begins with a Kick-Off Event in Council Chambers at City Hall with refreshments at

     8am and the program beginning at 8:30am. There will be four sites this year including: Invasive

     plant removal and beautification at Fort Steilacoom Park, sorting donated clothes for Caring for

     Kids, rehabilitation of the abandoned blueberry farm at Flett Creek and a salute to our soldiers

     serving in Iraq with a card/letter writing project. Site work will begin at 9am and be completed by

     noon.

     HomeStreet Bank Annual Boo-zar

     10802 Gravelly Lake Dr SW, Lakewood

     10-5pm.  A Pirate themed event.  11-12 vendors are lined up to take your dabloons

     (pirate talk for money) and sell you the rarest of treasure.   Games-prizes
     and treats no tricks.  There'll be plunder a plenty, so come on by.
