2009 Lakewood International Festival

10am-6pm.  This event is the only free Lakewood festival to celebrate the variety of cultures that make the South Sound & Lakewood area one of the most diverse communities of Washington State. We expect more than 20 entertainment groups & up to 50 arts & crafts vendors & community displays.  Please join us at this free, family-fun festival & learn more about the many cultures that make up our community. Come taste a variety of international foods, watch international  entertainment, stroll through the arts, crafts, children's area, & much more.  The event is a benefit for the Lakewood Sister Cities  Association.  Free admission.

2nd Annual Tacoma City Marathon/Half Marathon/10K

Tacoma

The marathon course itself will highlight much of Tacoma’s natural beauty.  Beginning in historic downtown Tacoma, the scenic & rolling course will take marathoners along the shores of Commencement Bay via Ruston Way & throughout the beautiful Tacoma area.  With views of the Tacoma Narrows’ Bridge as well as scenic Point Defiance, the Tacoma City Marathon route certainly will provide its participants a glimpse of Tacoma’s loveliest sights.

Tacoma Arthritis Walk

The Arthritis Walk® is the Arthritis Foundation’s annual nationwide event that raises awareness & funds to fight arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability. It is a tremendous opportunity to help improve the lives of the 46 million men, women & children doctor-diagnosed with arthritis. Get your  company involved or recruit friends & family members to form a team. Best of all, walk in honor of a loved one with arthritis & know you’re making a difference by raising funds to support Arthritis Foundation research, public health & public policy efforts to improve the lives of people with arthritis.

Mother's Day Breakfast at Northwest Trek

8:30am-Breakfast. What's better than breakfast in bed? Taking a tram ride after a catered breakfast in the Fir Bough Café at Northwest Trek. See if you can spot the earliest of Trek's babies in a very special Mothers Day celebration for you & yours. No matter your age (or your mom's) there is something to enjoy at Trek on her special day. American Cancer Society Tacoma Relay For Life

Buckley

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's signature activity.  Relay offers everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer.  Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or funning around a track or path.  Each  team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event.  Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.  Teams of people from all walks of life have fun while raising much-needed funds to fight cancer, and raise awareness of cancer prevention and  treatment.  No matter who you are, there's a place for you at Relay.  To participate, form a team, or dedicated luminaria at a local American Cancer Society Relay For Life, please call.

Kids' Fishing Day

This day of fishing is open to youth ages 5-12.  The cost is just $5 & each child receives a t-shirt & Zebco rod & reel.  Fish on!  Pre-registration required.

Queen Victoria's Birthday at Fort Nisqually

Fort Nisqually Living History Museum, Point Defiance Park, 5400 N Pearl St, Tacoma

11am-5pm.  Step back in time, to the mid-1800s, as the royal subjects of Fort Nisqually celebrate the birthday of her majesty, Queen Victoria with the firing of cannons, volleys of muskets & birthday toasts. All buildings will be open & re-enactors in 1850s attire will be waiting to share their knowledge & skills with you!

Rainier Dragon Boat Festival

Thea’s Park Foss Waterway, 535 E Dock St, Tacoma

The festival will feature a competitive dragon boat race which will host teams from all over the west coast. The race will be the first stop on the Pacific Dragon Boat Association regional series schedule.  The race course is 500 meters in length & will take place in Tacoma’s Thea Foss Waterway.
