A Message from the
2006-2007 Chair of the Board |
|
As the 2006-07 Chair of the Board, I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting time in Lakewood. I have been a member of both the board and the executive committee for the past 4 years, and have witnessed businesses taking advantage of the variety of membership opportunities the Chamber offers.
Now, with the advent of a new student and conference center being built at Clover Park Technical College, a new component has been added to increase revenue for the City of Lakewood, as well as increase the volume of traffic for area businesses. The Chamber’s move to Clover Park Technical College’s Business Center will create a new beginning for economic development in Lakewood. The Chamber will be more visible in the community by generating more tourism opportunities, as well as increasing revenue for Lakewood through the college’s conference center.
Since my background has revolved around the tourism and convention industry for over 20 years, I am particularly excited about the new hotel developments within Lakewood. The partnering of hotels and conference center will attract a new type of industry for the Lakewood area. The conference industry will bring more business exposure to the area and Lakewood will be more attractive for businesses relocating to Pierce County. More tourism revenues will be generated for the outlying area as a result of tapping into markets not normally pursued. All in all, the possibilities are endless and I am excited about the new ventures yet to come.
The Chamber will also continue to focus and lobby on legislative issues that impact the business community and our ability to do business. Ongoing support and outreach to our military community remains a significant thrust. Marketing and networking opportunities will also be a primary service that we offer our membership. This is a great time to be involved with the Chamber of Commerce. I urge you to take advantage of the myriad of opportunities your Chamber has to offer.
